in the gasping dizzy doldrums I was backwards working on the drums it was all I had left in me I'm a monkey typing without thumbs yeah we listened to the undies we knew the melbourne independent dreams but like a magnet moves the filings we were praying behind the scenes and you and me we see the sea and you and me walk upon upon the endless sea we walk upon the endless sea oh the uploads yes they're endless how will the punters ever find us in the this? we could use some kind of promo to cut through the deep and digital abyss I was standing in the drain and I was rapping about it with sweet jane but knew we had to find new meanings cos we're looping around it's gonna come up behind you again and you and me we see the sea you and me we walk upon the endless sea the endless sea the endless sea upon the endless sea then we see all these things entwine and I remember the washing on the line and we see all these things entwine then I remember the water and the wine upon the endless sea upon the endless sea yeah we walk upon the endless sea and you and me we see the sea and you and me we woke up on upon the endless sea we woke up on the endless sea we walk upon the endless sea we woke up on the endless sea the endless sea

you're back from the road back from the road you're telling me you're back from the road but I never saw this look in your eyes before of desperation and acceptance all wrapped up together like a secret code you're back from the road back from the road you're telling me you're back from the road but I never saw this look in your eyes before of desperation and acceptance all wrapped up together like a secret code like a secret code you're back from the road back from the road you said you're back from the road well I don't know where all this radical acceptance comes from?

about

Liner Notes -

This recording had it's genesis in the Great Southern Nights 2020 shows that occurred in Sydney in November 2020 as part of a 'relaunch' of live music locally in response to the Pandemic. Once more, our loyal arts patron, Ravi at Parliament On King graciously hosted us: the proceeds from which allowed us to set up home recording equipment in a rehearsal space, before the 2021 lockdowns returned to Sydney. A minimum of overdubs later, with Arron learning how further mix and master along the way produced this collection.

'Heard Immunity' might be imagined as the state where the maximum number of people become immunised to music that may in any way challenge or prompt any type of questioning, in order to maximise corporate profits (currently based on cynical algorithms).
Individuals who 'have ears to hear' beyond the Noise of current pop culture echo chambers, provided by 'Industry Giants,' may (hopefully) respond with Life Affirming Alternatives.

Heard Immunity

I'm thinking about
A time when voices of dissent
Were riding the 'airwaves'
Questions raised by a 'punk' genre
Answered by sounds become codified
Absorbed into mainstream fashion fabrics

Traded like stocks in Spotified boardrooms
Spotty golden goose eggs
And
Splintered subsidiaries
Same as it ever was
Many lost marbles

Waking to find
One had 'been had'
So hard to define
Back some time,
When music journalism became 'a thing'

Closer to home
Oils some questions
Echo Chamber answers
Private school rewards
Pilgrim to Canberra
Nuclear Subs on a shopping list
Records 'awkward' to play

Ground previously well trodden
By Dylan
Changing guards
Neil in halves
After The Gold Rush
[Like so much hippy smoke...]

A Tweeter blown
A man in his 50s
Raving in his own digital abyss
'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised'
(it will be a Tic Tok Boom
In portrait mode and ever diminishing attention spans)

So much 'up for review'
Many Sacred Cows and bubbles bursting
What will be the therapy chosen
By the many
Or by the few?

Matt, Sept 2021, (edits) Jan, Feb 2022

On behalf of Brett, (Producer)
- dedicated 'to Noel,' for his sage advice about Hendrix, Helen Reddy, ONJ and the perils of fame at Kelly's On King, July 2019.
Cheers to the halcyon daze, when the music was live and punters were unfiltered...
