Invisible Enemies didn't even know when I started on this freaky game show that I'd be fighting these invisible for our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms invisible enemies

Arron: It's up, it's down, it's all around. Things are out of place and the big things of Australia are a good excuse for a road trip, listening to road music - the best kind of music. Matt: The name came first from a rehearsal throw around, later with the place name, 'Blackwater' added to commemorate the person thought to be a victim of Covid in the town of the same name in Queensland, later found to have died of other causes.

It seems that in these modern times music shops are on the decline. In recent years, large instrument stores have closed across Sydney partly due to online buying, but also due to larger cultural shifts, such as the ability to carry instruments and recording studio capacities within our phones. Other shifts include the tailoring of individual music tastes to algorithmic mechanisms, with corporate interests at heart. Musical taste, once the domain of the musically literate 'maven' or tastemakers, i.e., Nick Kent, Simon Reynolds, Greil Marcus, Lester Bangs, Molly Meldrum, et.al., now falls within the bounds of the dumbed down mass culture, with it's readily recognisable flags and emblems. Those who ply their trade with making sounds with wood and wire and old style tube or transistor amps are relegated now to the oddities of, to my mind similar to old blokes I saw playing trad jazz in bars in the 1980s, playing music from 50 years previous. The problem, it appears is this: How can folk in modern times come into contact with the new sounds that SaMe THeRaPy are producing, unless they get some sounds out to new audiences, through recordings and performances.

So Cathartic 01:35
So Cathartic clocking in and out and waiting for my days off faces on the screen, looks like the tiles are peeling off they're peeling off, peeling off gathered in an upper room, waiting for the tongues of fire sons of thunder through the gloom they're gonna take it to the wire it's so cathartic, so cathartic, so cathartic, so cathartic it's like arithmetic scheduled consequence reward and threat repetition and substitution antecedents, associations feedback and monitoring goals and planning social support comparison of behaviour communication and natural consequence never let a good crisis go to waste

The Last Recording we’ve spoken of the truth lots of things, philosophies you say ‘ah but you have no proof and I believe in only what I see’ so we take it as it comes and you hear the sound of lonely distant drums can’t say that it’s the end but is that the slow train coming ‘round the bend? and I know that it’s alright there will come a day again when only dead men die and then as you walk towards the light it may be a cliche or the words in red were really right you say let’s try the fruit it helps me see what I want to see’ you said ‘I was here before’ but the here and now is knocking at your door and I know that it’s alright there will come a day again when only dead men die and then as you walk towards the light it may be a cliche or the words in red were really right there will come a day again when only dead men die and then there will come a day again when only dead men die

Sketch Of Earl Slick know you don't know you don't know all there is to know Know you don't know you do not know all there is to know we were walking we were talking hanging around busking on the island of song going down mines, working the dredges and scratching about at the bottom of a volcano know you don't know you don't know all there is to know Know you don't know you do not know all there is to know we're sending our voices in digital boxes soundscape prisms, the notes droning on making our minds up, while corporate forces give different choices that's not where we're coming from know you don't know you don't know all there is to know Know you don't know you do not know all there is to know drew him that morning, strange apparition earl slick playing with the new york dolls we've been curated, the broken narrative from station to station the note's droning on and on

about

Matt: 'Paradogma' is a neologism that Arron stumbled upon during a mis-typing moment a little while ago (it turns out to also be some sort of 'metal' band, but we'll leave that alone). The 'Paradogma' might just be the cumulation of the torrent of various dogmas that people these days are expected to sign up for, act out, emote about and reflect in their every waking moment. Paradogma Streams, therefore, are on the increase. They currently threaten to become a vast, raging torrent, something akin to the bursting of an immense dam, with the potential to wipe out much in terms of the the individual's ability to think and act in an 'unmediated' manner, or (heaven forbid!), maintain their own private counsel. Even the streams that run within these these so called paradogmas are themselves 'crossed,' confused and otherwise conflicted.

This collection of songs is SaMe THeRaPy's attempt to cross over those streams. You are invited to grab your AM radio, an inflatable craft and paddle against the current, to begin the perilous journey with us.

All recordings made at home, during 'Covid Iso' in the months March - May 2020, with each member of the band separate from the other. Recordings made via phones and other primitive recording devices. All mixing and mastering by Arron. All 'mistakes' are incorporated in the spirit of Bob Ross (!)

The following cut and paste is sampled from various production notes, and comments texted or posted during the recording process:

shaping up for a masterpiece that promises deepest obscurity...

will be sure to hover somewhere on the periphery of public awareness

instruments aplenty

ST push the ‘mistake threshold’ which any reasonable listener may accomodate to new levels
but I like it!

Brett did well to stay with it, despite the glockenspiel being out of time

comfort zone multiplying

CDs had all this room for 70 minutes of music in the 90s, but people got sick of listening to the entire length of them and good tracks get lost in the mix

consult the Oblique Strategies: first thought, best thought

not sure if the drums are perfect or perfectly flawed?

agreed, light on reverb, but can’t remember, vocal often done in bathroom for reverb anyway

I love the xylo

do we keep on the sonic trail?
sanity inducing

I’d forgotten to change with the chords, but I’ll try to synch with the drums more

appreciate all the efforts, as life is a bit warped… depends how much time/effort to outlay?

happy either way, but less is more

sounds going crazy

I like what Brett is doing with the single beat
(Arron): Matt, that beat is me… electric kit test ;)

I added some stupid noises

Trad Jazz and Molly Meldrum is funniest title!

a colleague heard this and fell to bits with your addition

add nothing else

I like the vibe

love your guitar bit on Dominoes

where did Earl go? Have gotten used to having those both together now
don’t forget Dippy Dah!

‘dominoes, I suppose’ is what I thought Syd said on an out take of his ‘Dominoes’, but that’s not accurate

love it, put it anywhere…

these are Brett’s drums… Can’t you hear the distorted recording?

how does it sound if you just throw the solo in from the middle 8?

did you get my 12 string guitar bit 2 weeks ago?

I really like this one though. It has the shoegaze beautiful noise element, plus lo fi bird noises
Bird Noises: a nod to The Oils, BJM and Shining Bird!

Chaotic has the most beautifully wacky guitars

love the reno hammering in the background - building the Salt City
maybe a good opener?

fade to minimum or cut out a slice of time to realign?
I know it’s easier said than done

how do you feel about drums for this one?
or I can do my usual dodgy?

can’t have it without a band feel

like weird ghostly cymbals and strange applause at end

without isolation for brett to hear himself, it is hard to record backwards from me to him

a masterpiece of confusion

make it a hit - Elton

Matt:
Thanks to my brother, Mike and sister, Deb, for introducing me to so many of those sounds, back when Bowie was Ziggy and Daddy was Cool!

Arron:
Thanks to Grandma Doris for the latest studio equipment.

Brett:
Thankyou GBVG for the inspiration on Powder Works Rd.
